Michael Morpurgo joins LGfL’s Reading Zone Live

On the 25th September Michael Morpurgo took part in the most successful LGfL ReadingZone Live event to date. Hosted by St Marylebone Secondary school, and linking in with 5 primary schools, London school children were able to ask about Michael's approach to writing and learn from the master storyteller what inspires him, and the challenges associated with writing a new book.

At times, animated, and at other times emotionally affected by the topics being discussed, Michael offered an honest and intimate perspective on his craft.

Topics discussed included:

  • What role does morality have in children’s books?
  • What role do animals have in the narrative of your books?
  • What inspires you?
  • Why do you set many of your stories war in many of your books?
  • Advice for younger writers

Michael offered a truly engaging performance throughout the video conference, at one point acting out how his former primary school teacher had so unimaginatively failed to inspire his creativity.

Separate interviews were captured with the thoughtful author explaining the rationale behind his extensive portfolio of books. It offers a truly inspirational role model for every young writer.

The next event is on the 24th October at 2:30pm with Jacqueline Wilson.
